Fresh Water Kit
With the rVandtt RV Fresh Water Kit, you can rest assured that you and your family will have access to clean, safe water no matter where your travels take you.
Quick start guide: Congratulations on your purchase of the rVandtt RV Fresh Water Kit! We think you will really appreciate the convenience of having everything you need to attach your RV to a fresh water source in one place. At rVandtt our goal is have you spend as much time as possible on the ‘recreation’ part of using your recreational vehicle. Please follow the instruction below to get fresh water hooked up to your RV.
1. Water source: It starts with a fresh water source at your campground or RV park. Many water sources around the country have less than stellar water quality, and extremely high pressure that can damage the plumbing in your RV. That’s what this kit will fix!
2. Pressure Regulator: The pressure regulator needs to be the first thing in line. That way it can protect everything, starting with your drinking water hose, from damaging water pressure. The rVandtt water pressure regulator can be adjusted from 0-165lbs of the (limited by pressure from water source) by twisting the screw on the top of regulator. It comes from the mfg set to 45lbs of pressure which is the suggested setting for RVs (be sure to check your RV manual before adjusting the pressure any higher). The pressure regulator should twist on to the water source just like your garden hose at home.
3. Hose Splitter: We provide a splitter so that you can still access the water source without having to detach your RV fresh water hose. The second outlet can also be used to attach a separate hose to your black tank flush system. (We recommend the rVandtt Grey/Black Tank Flush Water Hose available on Amazon)
4. Hose Quick Connect 1: Attach male end of 1st quick connect to your hose splitter and the female end to your fresh water drinking hose
5. Drinking Water Hose (not included): Hose is not included with kit because you will need to purchase one that is an appropriate length for you RV. (We recommend the rVandtt Premium Drinking water hose available on Amazon)pressure
6. Hose Quick Connect 2: Attach male end of 2nd quick connect to your fresh water hose, and the female end to the water filter. Quick connects can be left attached after initial install to make setup and breakdown of your RV quicker and more convenient.
7. Water Filter: The rVandtt water filter is a NSF certified filter that will keep damaging particles out of your RV plumbing systems, and provide great tasting water for you and your family. It is placed as close to the RV water inlet as possible to eliminate any contaminates that may have gotten into the drinking hose during storage. Filters need to be replaced every ~90 days under normal use. (don’t forget to take your quick connect off the filter when replacing!)
8. Flexible connector: Connect the flexible connector to the other end of your water filter. It can protect the fresh water inlet on your RV from damage if the filter is bumped or moved.
9. Hose Elbow: The hose elbow is not needed for every RV, but most RV’s have their water inlet flush with the side of the RV. Having the filter stick straight out from the side of the RV can damage the inlet and create a hazard for people walking around the RV. The Hose Elbow allows the filter to hang flat down the side of the RV.
10. RV Fresh water Inlet: You made it! You know have fresh water hooked up to your RV. Make sure the valve on the hose splitter attached to your drinking water is in the open position, the other side of the splitter is in the closed position and then turn on the water at the source. If you have any leaks, the leak repair kit is ready to help!
LEAK REPAIR KIT INSTRUCTIONS
Most leaks you will experience happen due to a bad seal at one of the gaskets between the water source and your RV. In the leak repair kit we have supplied backups for all the gaskets in your RV Fresh Water Kit (hose gaskets, filter gaskets, and hose quick connect O-rings). We have also supplied you with food-grade silicone grease that will improve the seal and longevity of your gaskets. If in the rare situation you get a leak from a puncture in a hose, there is also silicone tape that can be used to get you through your vacation.
Filter Gasket / Hose Gasket
These are the primary gaskets used at connection points between the components in your kit. The only difference between the two is a small steel screen in the filter gasket that keeps large particles from entering your system. At purchase, there is a filter gasket at the input to your water regulator, and regular hose gaskets everywhere else. From a replacement perspective the steps are the same:
Make sure you confirm that the leak cannot be resolved by tightening the connection (no, we are not trying to insult you. Just check it 😉).
If the leak continues, remove the gasket from the hose. For a hose gasket your pinky usually works well to pull the gasket out. For a filter gasket you may need to use a pair of needle nose pliers to grab ahold of the screen and pull the gasket out (yes, you will destroy the filter. Don’t worry, you have extras)
Use your finger to confirm there are no grooves or cuts on either end of the brass connection. If there are any irregularities on either side of the connection, a new gasket may not fix the problem. If this is the first time using the RV fresh water kit and replacing the gasket doesn’t fix the issue, contact our support team to get a new part sent free of charge.
Before installing a new gasket, apply a small amount of food grade silicone grease to the gasket. The easiest way is to put a tiny bead of grease on your forefinger, rub the grease between your thumb and forefinger, and then spin the gasket between your thumb and forefinger to apply a thin film to both sides. The
Put gasket back on hose and test to see if leak is resolved.
Hose Quick connect O-rings
If one of the quick connects in your system is leaking, you may need to replace the O-ring on the male end of the connector.
To remove the O-ring use a small screwdriver or even a razor blade to get the O-ring out of its groove in the connector. BE CAREFUL not to nick or damage the brass while removing the O-ring or the quick connect may need to be replaced (if you use a razor blade be careful not to nick yourself too!). It is ok to damage, even cut, the O-ring if necessary, you will be replacing it.
Apply a small amount of food grade silicone grease to the new O-ring. The easiest way is to put a tiny bead of grease on your forefinger, rub the grease between your thumb and forefinger, and then spin the O-ring between your thumb and forefinger to apply a thin film to all sides. The silicone grease is non-toxic, odorless, and tasteless, and will help keep your O-ring from being damaged during repeated use.
Slide new O-ring over male end of connector until it falls into place and test to see if leak is resolved.
Silicone tape
If you have a puncture or cut in one of your hoses, silicone tape is a great way to seal things up until you get a chance to replace the hose.
Cut off about a 1ft section of silicone tape from the roll and remove the plastic backing. Be careful here, the tape will try and stick to itself, but unlike regular tape you should be able to separate it and try again if it does.
Start by tightly wrapping the silicone tape around the hose two times just off to one side of the cut or puncture. Then, while overlapping 60% with the silicone tape already applied, wind over to the other side of the cut or puncture. Once on the other side do another two complete winds around the hose on that side. If you have any tape left from the piece you are using, start winding back the other direction as far as you can get. Silicone tape works by pressure, not glue. It will be important to stretch the tape tightly as you wind it around the hose to apply the pressure needed to keep the water in.
If it still leaks after application, repeat the process with a new section of silicone tape right over the top of the first application. We can’t emphasize enough how important it is to really stretch the silicone tape as you are applying it. It will not work if you have not created enough pressure to keep the water in the hose.
